Martial Arts

YMCA Judo

Kodokan Judo, the “gentle way” of martial arts was founded by Jigoro Kano of Japan in 1882 and has been an Olympic sport since 1964 for both men and women. Judo has been taught at the YMCA for the last 25 years. With an emphasis on safety, control and the philosophy of “mutual benefit” students are taught throwing and grappling techniques, which can easily be used in self-defense. Judo is a great form of all-around exercise for all ages both female and male. It builds strength, confidence, flexibility and discipline. Students can participate in yearly local Judo tournaments.

Classes are taught by Mark Rumby, 3nd degree black belt, Steve Anderson, 2nd degree black belt and Chris Goodwin, 1st degree black belt. Chief Advisor: Dr. Bernd Busch, 6th degree black belt. All classes held at the Arapahoe Center.
