As one of six national training sites for USA Judo, our instructors are ranked on the national, world, and Olympic Judo levels. Taught at the YMCA of Boulder Valley, Mapleton Center, our program strives to instill focus, respect, confidence, and discipline in all of our students. For our younger students our classes work to teach self-defense, coordination, discipline, and help with training for tournaments if they choose to compete. We also have competitive classes for those with more Judo experience which offers a more rigorous class structure.
Our beginning adult classes put more emphasis on the basics of Judo and teaches students how to safely execute throws and other techniques while also providing a great form of exercise. The Boulder Judo Training Center holds belt promotion nights throughout the year. In addition, we host local Judo tournaments twice a year.

Your improved self-confidence will help you deal with all of life’s challenges with a more positive outlook.
Kata:
In Kata classes, students will learn to perfect the techniques that are the basic foundation to competitive judo and other martial arts. Kata teaches the students competitive techniques in a ceremonial format. Unlike Judo and Jujitsu classes, students will not be required to spar with each other, however, will develop skills through the mastery of techniques. Students will be taught how to fight as Japanese warriors did with swords and weapons as well as submission techniques. Kata places emphasis on the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage, and movement in the performance of martial arts. Skill, technique and timing, rather than the use of brute strength, are the essential ingredients for success in Kata. For example, in Kata classes you may learn how to give way, rather than use force, to overcome a stronger opponent. Kata competitions and demonstrations are held throughout the world and are required for most belt promotions. Though Kata may be viewed as a mere demonstration or ceremony by the untrained eye, skilled martial artist know that Kata provides the basic fundamentals that are necessary for tournament fighting martial artists. The principles of Kata such as physical coordination, power, and flexibility are developed in sync with concentration and precision.
