
The YMCA of Boulder Valley actively recruits and solicits student interns from colleges and universities. The assitance the students lend in the YMCA program areas (sports, childcare, administration, camps, fitness, etc) benefit both the student and the YMCA. The length of our internships are negotiable, but generally last 10-16 weeks.

The organization benefits by:
- Having access to current knowledge in the student’s field of study
- Having new talent and additional staff directed to specific organizational needs
- Providing release time for regular staff members
- Providing opportunity to observe potential new employees and reduces hiring risk and training time
- Providing an opportunity for the organization to achieve its own goals of leadership development
The YMCA internship program will be used to increase the quality of service and programs made available to YMCA members and the community. The following conditions outline the terms of the YMCA intern program:
- Student interns are not paid a salary during their internship, but will have the opportunity to apply for paid positions currently open at the YMCA.
- Students will submit a resume, fill out a full YMCA job application and submit a statement of their personal goals and objectives they wish to achieve in their internship.
- Students will submit a document from the university acknowledging the YMCA’s responsibility.
- Students will receive a copy of the job description.
- Students will submit a work schedule to their assigned supervisor.
- Students will document the hours and type of work done.
- Students will participate in an evaluation of work performance midway through the internship.
Additionally, students should understand that:
- A copy of their midterm evaluation will be sent to the instructor/school.
- A final performance evaluation will be completed by the student and will include: success in accomplishing goals and objectives and evaluation of the internship.
- The supervisor will complete the necessary paperwork for documentation of the internship and submit a final performance review to the instructor/school.
- The supervisor will provide a letter of recommendation as appropriate for the satisfactory completion of the internship.
