How long have you worked for the Y? 8 months

My job at the Y is: Senior Director of Early Childhood Programs

Favorite way to relax:
Sitting by a campfire

I would love to travel to: India

I work for the Y because: I’m passionate about early childhood education and truly believe in the Y’s mission of serving the community and providing services and care for ALL children!

My favorite sports team: Cincinnati Bengals!

My favorite restaurant: Mountain Sun

The most fun part about my job is: Playing! I get to engage with our students every day in meaningful activities that encourage a love of learning.

My favorite band: Kenny Chesney

My favorite movie: The Sandlot, The Breakfast Club

The most meaningful part of my job is: Providing support and services to our families in the classroom and beyond. We utilize so many community programs and outreach support services throughout the Longmont community to ensure our students receive the education and support they need.

My pets: Great Dane, Tucker; cats, Pip and Scout; hamsters, Sam and Bear; and fish, Sushi, Neo and Nugget.

Hobbies include: Camping, hiking, reading

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y: The Y is truly a family! Everyone at the Y rallies to help support one another and help out in different departments whenever needed.

Name: Sarah Torrance

How long have you worked for the Y? Almost 3 years

My job at the Y is: Part Time Site Director at Flatirons Elementary (Summer—Assistant Director for K-1st at Bear Creek Elementary).

I work for the Y because: I love working with children and providing a safe space for them to grow, learn and develop lasting relationships with peers. I also believe in the mission of the YMCA and love how all my co-workers value diversity, inclusion and acceptance—it’s very inspiring and has taught me so much about the person I should strive to be.

My favorite movie: Never been able to answer this question!

My favorite fruit: Pineapple

The most fun part about my job is: Knowing I’m being paid to play outside with my campers, read stories to children learning the alphabet, go on field trips all over Denverand get messy doing crazy art projects with children who can’t get enough of glitter and glue!

My favorite way to relax: Bike ride

My favorite holiday: Easter

The most meaningful part of my job is: Knowing I’m making an impact and an impression on each and every child I work with.

Hobbies include: Biking, hiking, swimming and reading

My favorite band: Lumineers

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y is: Working with children equates to being flexible about anything and everything you have “planned” for the day. No matter how much you coordinate and plan lessons, field trips, art projects, etc., it’s rare to have the same day twice when working with children. You’ve got to be ready to change gears at any time!

My favorite sports team: Colorado Mammoth

My favorite restaurant: Anything serving good Mexican food
