Volunteer of the Month: Kyle Rogers

Name: Kyle Rogers

Kyle Rogers is the volunteer of the month

How long have you volunteered for the Y? 2.5 years.

I support the Y by: Coaching youth sports (football, basketball and baseball).

I volunteer with the Y because: As I look back on my youth and think of those who had the biggest impact on my life, coaches rank very high on the list. My aspiration is to have a similar impact on today’s youth. The Y is one of the very best places to volunteer because:(i) the staff is incredibly supportive and friendly, (ii) the facilities are high-quality, and (iii) the youth athletes are an absolute joy to work with.

Volunteering in general is important to me because: There is nothing more rewarding in life than helping others and, in particular, kids.

What’s your advice for people who are thinking about volunteering for the Y? You will not regret it! Volunteering for the Y and interacting with its staff, members and youth athletes is an incredibly rewarding experience. If you are not comfortable getting your start as a head coach, or lack experience with a particular sport, volunteer as an assistant or team mom/dad. You can have a lasting impact on the kids regardless of your role.

What’s your favorite part of volunteering? The kids! Seeing the pure joy the kids experience when participating in Y sports cannot be beat.

Why We Love Kyle

"Kyle Rogers has shown such dedication to the Y Sports community. He continuously shows up, whether it’s for flag football, baseball or basketball, with a spirit of helpfulness. His interaction with the kids is special, and his interaction with our officials and staff is always one of dignity and grace. He truly represents the Y Way to Play out on the fields and courts. We are lucky to have him involved in our programs, and we’re honored to nominate him as the YMCA of BV Volunteer of the Month." — Moss Butler, Sports Associate Program Director
