Maryam and Khris
Name: Maryam Moore (pictured left)

How long have you worked for the Y? I have worked for the Y for 10.5 years.

My job at the Y is: I am a LIVESTRONG trainer and group-ex instructor, including SilverSneakers.

Pets: My three Holland Lop bunnies: Monet, Lily and Noel. They’re French.

Hobbies include: Makeup artistry, watching Grey's Anatomy, reading, trail running with my son and washing my car.

I work for the Y because: I’ve always worked for the Y. Just kidding. I love being part of a cause. I love that my labors reach far beyond improving the physical aspect but also encourage the hearts and minds of our participants.

Favorite Bands: Alabama Shakes, Fugees, Blues Traveler.

Favorite Movie: Nacho Libre

The most fun part about my job is: Making the members happy. I love helping the SilverSneakers set up for class. Before class begins, I mingle with them, giving out lots of hugs and smiles. I have fun joking around with the LIVESTRONGers while they work out. I also love my co-workers like Jess, Khris and Izzy.

Favorite Sports Team: I am 100% indifferent to professional athletics, but I love watching my son’s soccer team!

Favorite Restaurant: Santiago's

The most meaningful part of my job is: Making people feel appreciated and cared for. I reach out to the individual. I want them to feel like they are an important part of my class so that they’ll return for years to come, and they have. I have had the same participants in my Thursday night class for 7 years.

Favorite Way to relax: I watch Grey's Anatomy, play with my bunnies, and hang out with my fam.

Favorite Holiday: Christmas!

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y is: It takes a team effort to get the job done! Khris and I are like yin and yang when we’re running our LIVESTRONG class. We compensate for each others strengths and weaknesses. There’s no ego, just working together to make a safe and happy place for these Survivors to heal.

Name: Khris Wright (pictured above, right)

How long have you worked for the Y? 25 years.

My job at the Y is: Fitness instructor and LIVESTRONG facilitator

I work for the Y because: I am surrounded by wonderful and amazing people. Helping members become healthier and happier is a great way to spend your day!

Pets: I have 3 cats. Yes, I am pretty much a CRAZY cat lady.

The most fun part about my job is: Getting to share my love of fitness with everyone who takes classes with me. I really enjoy my co-workers too. They make it fun to come to work every day!

Hobbies include: One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies and eat popcorn!

The most meaningful part of my job is: Getting to connect with members. Whether they need a smile, a conversation or a fantastic workout!

Favorite way to relax: I take soaks in the tub, lay down with my kitties and read to relax. Usually I fall asleep…

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y is: I have learned many lessons, that’s for sure! One of the biggest is that things change, and change isn’t always easy. But learning new things and different ways of doing things is what makes life interesting and keeps us growing into stronger people.

TERESA-living-our-causeName: Teresa Roalson

How long have you worked for the Y? About a year and a half.

My job at the Y is: Administrative Assistant. This includes assisting Chris (CEO), the executive staff and the board of directors. Pets: 2 dogs, Cori and Ollie.

Hobbies include: The great outdoors, reading and knitting.

I work for the Y because: I love helping others from behind the scenes — from helping our community to helping my coworkers. I am inspired by the staff and board of directors because of their hard work and dedication to our mission.

Favorite restaurant: Most any, I do not like to cook!

Favorite way to relax: Same as hobbies, the great outdoors, reading and micro breweries.

The most fun part about my job is: Definitely my coworkers! They make me smile and laugh all of the time.

The most meaningful part of my job is: Serving our community and seeing the generous contributions from donors that makes it all possible. It makes me smile and sometimes brings tears to my eyes.

Favorite holiday: Christmas

I would love to travel to: Thailand, Hawaii or anywhere I have not yet been.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while working at the Y is. I did not learn this at the Y, but I am reminded of it often, even the little things count.
