ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS

The YMCA offers a wide variety of exercise programs for active older adults. Our exercise programs are appropriate for adults 50+, those returning to exercise and those who are new to exercise. Offerings include the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program as well as popular classes for older adults such as Moving for Better Balance and Fit After 50.

SilverSneakers® Fitness Program

An innovative blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming that allows older adults to take greater control of their health.

  • Check with your healthcare provider to see if you are eligible for the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program. 
  • Please advise the YMCA Membership Desk if you are eligible for the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program.
  • Customized SilverSneakers® classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.
  • Health education seminars and other events that promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
  • SilverSneakers® members can enjoy any YMCA class or program, and non SilverSneakers® members are welcome to join us for SilverSneakers® classes. 

Class Schedule

SilverSneakers BOOM

BOOM was developed by leading fitness experts to improve strength, flexibility and endurance in convenient 30-minute workouts. These classes will challenge you, but don’t worry — one-handed pushups aren’t required.

SliverSneakers Cardio Circuit

Combine fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball is alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers Cardio Fit

If you are ready to take up a new challenge, come try Cardio Fit! Similar to the other SilverSneakers® classes where you use handheld weights or elastic tubing, this energizing class helps you increase strength and cardio! The SilverSneakers® chair will be available to give you an option for support as you strengthen your body and learn how to even do strength exercise on the floor.

SilverSneakers Classic

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers® ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers Senior Stretch

Learn to support your joints and increase flexibility in a class focused on stretching. Get a great stretch for all the major muscle groups and learn techniques that focus on flexibility, postural corrections and alignment. 

SilverSneakers Splash

Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination.

SilverSneakers Yoga

Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit Members:

We want you to experience all the YMCA of Boulder Valley has to offer and reap the benefits of your SilverSneakers or Silver&Fit membership. Swim, walk, take classes, try yoga, play ping pong, join a club and work with a trainer.

Get 10 scans in a month, and your name will be entered to win prizes such as movie passes and local restaurant gift cards!

EVERY ACTIVITY COUNTS: You can scan your Y membership card for every activity you take part in — even if it’s multiple times a day. For example, if you take a Fit After 50 class and then swim, that’s two scans for that day.

MORE THAN FITNESS: Scan your card for non-fitness organized activities, like club meetings and events.

BEYOND “SILVER” CLASSES: As a SilverSneakers or Silver&Fit member, you are not limited to trademarked SilverSneakers classes. Try Zumba Gold, Moving For Better Balance, water fitness classes and more.

SilverSneakers® Potluck

Once a month, the SilverSneakers group organizes a potluck for socializing, learning and staying connected. We host speakers each meeting — from politicians to researchers, from community leaders to adventurers.

Other Classes Active Older Adults May Enjoy

FIT AFTER 50

This class focuses on flexibility, incorporating gentle yoga, and emphasizes strength and balance. Strength training equipment includes free weights and resistance balls.

MOVING FOR BETTER BALANCE

Moving for Better Balance is a fall prevention program that uses the principles and movements of Tai Chi to help older adults improve their balance, mobility and increase their confidence in doing everyday activities. Taught by a YMCA Certified Instructor, you will learn low impact postures and movements along with stretching and breathing exercises.

ZUMBA® GOLD

ZUMBA® Gold is a less intense version of the original Zumba class with dance routines designed for beginners and older adults.
