The Y and Boulder Hockey Club Team Up

Jun 16, 2017, 16:32 PM by Y Staff

Youth Hockey at the Y

We are happy to announce that Boulder Hockey Club and YMCA Youth Hockey have teamed up to better serve our local ice community. As of this week, the YMCA of Boulder Valley and Boulder Hockey Club will provide competitive and recreational teams for ages 4 to 19.

Together, we will be the Bison.

The YMCA Youth Ice Hockey program has been transformed to successfully and efficiently provide recreational and competitive hockey families additional team and developmental options within this new partnership.

The home of the Boulder Hockey Club (the Sports Stable) along with CU and the YMCA Carlston ice arenas are all located within 6 miles of one another, so a collaboration of resources, knowledge, and professional ice hockey coaches will strengthen both entities.

The new YMCA Boulder Hockey Club collaboration will continue to offer Learn to Play, 8U hockey and 10U-18U recreational programs. The 10U-18U recreational teams will play in the Colorado Recreational Hockey League. The CRHL is a youth hockey league that emphasizes skill development with a recreational component. The goal of the CRHL is to encourage a fun environment in a recreational skill development setting, giving all players an opportunity to play games. Boulder Hockey Club, in collaboration with the YMCA, will continue to provide 10U-18U competitive ice hockey teams that will play in the CCYHL. The CCYHL offers players a more competitive environment with more weekly ice touches and dryland sessions.

In short, we are now one club with a wider range of resources to help provide a better hockey experience for all families. Tryouts for all teams across both leagues will be held in collaboration to provide all Bison players, both CCYHL and CRHL, an equal opportunity in accordance with league rules and bylaws.

The YMCA is currently working with Boulder Hockey Club to schedule open houses. These will be held at both Boulder Hockey Club and the YMCA. These open houses will be designed to help answer any and all questions and concerns that you may have following this announcement. The list of times and dates for these open houses will be sent to you in the very near future.

Registration to be a Boulder Bison is now open. Register for CRHL team placement here. Register for a CCYHL tryout here.

We are excited for this new venture and look forward to seeing you around the rinks in the near future.
