YOUTH HOCKEY LEAGUE

WINTER/SPRING HOCKEY

YMCA Jr Buffs / Boulder Hockey Club Spring Development Hockey (U8-U18)

With coaching from Chance Creger and other well-respected instructors, YMCA Jr Buffs Spring Rec Hockey will focus on improving skating, developing skill and continuing to nurture a lifelong love of the ice. For young hockey players who want to stay on the ice this spring, the program has an 8-to-1 (or less) coaching ratio to give them the support they need to become more skilled, resilient and confident on the ice. Players will be grouped based on skill level to help them progress. The eight weekly sessions each include station-based skill development and small area games, an inter-squad scrimmage and dynamic warm-up and cool-down.

  • U8: April 2 - May 21
  • U10: April 3 - May 22
  • U12: April 4 - May 23
  • U14-U18: April 5 - May 24

MEET THE COACHES

Chance Creger

Chance's youth hockey career included playing on a Midget Minor AA team that won two regional Silver Sticks, a Colorado State Championship and competed in the 2010 US National Championships. As a member of the Jr Bison, he was called up to the North American Hockey League in Corpus Christi. His junior hockey career continued on the NAHL Minot Minotauros, the MJHL Dauphin Kings and the MNJHL Wisconsin Saints. He completed his career by playing NCAA hockey at Northland College. He started his coaching career with the BHC PeeWee AA and Roughriders U13 AAA. Chance has spent the last two seasons as the Hockey Director for the YMCA Jr. Buffs and Colorado Yeti while also head coaching the Bantam A Jr. Buffs. His philosophy? Every player must fail in order to make room for improvement.

Zach Buick

Zach’s hockey career started at the age of 5, when his dad would take him to a local pond to skate. That’s where his love for the game began. He played for the Vail Mountaineers from ages 6 to 13. He then moved to Superior and played for the Roughriders for two years and then the Hyland Hills Jaguars. He started coaching in 2017 when I assisted with Planet Hockey Summer Camps, and he currently plays defense for Monarch High Schools varsity hockey team.

Ethan Howanitz

Ethan has been playing hockey for years and has been around the game his whole life. He specializes in forward skills and shooting skills. He recently played for Boulder Hockey Club and Centaurus High School.

YMCA and Boulder BisonIntroducing Bison Hockey

The 10U-18U recreational teams will play in the Colorado Recreational Hockey League. The CRHL emphasizes skill development with a recreational component. Boulder Hockey Club, in collaboration with the YMCA, will continue to provide 10U-18U competitive ice hockey teams that will play in the Colorado Competitive Youth Hockey League through Boulder Hockey Club at Sports Stable. The CCYHL offers players a more competitive environment and more time commitment.

CRHL Mite

The Colorado Rec Hockey League (CRHL) is a youth hockey league that emphasizes skills development with a recreational component. Our CRHL program offers an alternative to the highly competitive environment of travel hockey. Families participating in the recreational program can expect to pay less, travel less often and get an average of 2.5 ice touches a week. Optional weekly practices available for an additional fee. Our CRHL option will be for newer to less advanced players but will have a feel of the same rec program the YMCA has always offered. A $500 deposit is required to secure your child’s spot on the team and will be put toward the full season fee.

Full Season Fee
