BVSD LIFELONG LEARNING CAMP

The YMCA of Boulder Valley and BVSD Lifelong Learning are collaborating again to offer a fun and educational camp opportunity for youth in the community. The Y offers LEGO® classes, STEM Adventures and Sports Clinics through BVSD Lifelong Learning. BVSD Lifelong Learning also has many other camps including music, cooking, science and more. In addition, the Y offers before and after camp care for camps at Bear Creek, Foothill, Creekside and Superior. If you choose a full-day camp option, you must register for an AM camp, a PM camp and extended care all at the same location.

LEGO Robotics

LEGO Robotics is a body of teaching and learning practice based on LEGO Robotics kits, popular sets of materials that enable children without formal training in engineering and computer programming to design, build and program small-scale robots. Campers will dive into the world of LEGO Boost and LEGO Mindstorms to create their very own robot to take over the world…or just to have it move and pick something up.

LEGO Movie Making

Legos are amazing! You can build anything with them, but what if you could make them come alive? In this fun and exciting LLL class, students will use the magic of stop-motion animation to film their creations and make them come alive. Projects will include screen writing, story boarding, filming and editing. Each student will be emailed a copy of their movie creations to share with their friends and families. Let the future Hollywood directors get started in this fun and engaging class!

Basketball

This camp focuses on skill building to help your child grow and develop in the game of basketball. There will be scrimmages and fun competitions mixed in to keep your child moving forward. Teamwork, ball handling, shooting, passing and fun are daily components of camp. Participants should wear athletic clothing as well as bring 30 SPF sunscreen, lunch and a water bottle.

Flag Football 

Campers will learn techniques to enhance their skills in throwing, receiving and agility as well as gain an understanding of the rules and strategies of the sport. These skills are put to use and taught in drills as well as in game play. Participants should wear athletic clothing without pockets or belt loops and athletic shoes. Campers also need to bring 30 SPF sunscreen, snack and a water bottle.

Soccer 

Y staff will work with players to enhance their skills in passing, shooting, dribbling, offense and defense. Young athletes will also work on positioning on the field and gain an understanding of the rules and strategies through scrimmages. Participants should wear athletic clothing and bring shin guards, 30 SPF sunscreen, lunch and a water bottle.

Ultimate Frisbee

Don’t be afraid of this flying saucer in the air — grab that Frisbee, run and pass it to the end zone. Campers will learn the skills associated with the sport and put those skills to the test through game play.

Spikeball/Pickleball

Spikeball combines a sport and a game, volleyball and foursquare, to create a fast-paced, nail biting sports experience. No pickles will be harmed in the playing of Pickleball, but be ready to run around the court, striking the whiffle ball with your wooden paddle to score a point. Think tennis meets badminton!

Floor Hockey

Hockey in summer? You betcha! The YMCA floor hockey clinic will help develop all the skills related to hockey, minus the ice skating. Campers will participate in drills that focus on shooting, passing, offense and defense strategy and goal tending. There will be breaks in the routine for fun games and some “re-fueling” activities. Short “playoffs” will be part of the agenda with a focus on good sportsmanship. Participants should wear athletic clothing and bring 30 SPF sunscreen, snack and a water bottle.
