Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Jan 15

The Boulder Valley YMCA is hosting a middle school day of service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is an opportunity to help the community, earn service hours and learn about this important figure in American history.

In the morning, we’ll have a name game, a quick snack and then head to Lafayette Goodwill where we’ll assist with stocking shelves, folding clothes, categorizing and more. This will allow the Goodwill to serve more people! This part of the program will take place from 10:00am-12:30pm. Afterwards, we will head back to the Mapleton YMCA for lunch. Then we’ll learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and go through his famed “I Have a Dream” speech. We’ll also watch the musical Hairspray, which revolves around racial integration in the 1960s (rated PG) and discuss parallels to MLK’s speech and the film. Snacks and cocoa will be provided.

It’s going to be an awesome day! Drop off at the Mapleton YMCA between 8:00 and 9:00am. Pick up between 4:00 and 5:00pm. Lunch will be provided. This program is free, but registration is required.
